盡管世界技術格局在的不斷變化,但石英始終是制造清潔、持久的晶振優質材料,作用于最精確的計時產品上。幾乎任何材料都能夠產生和共振頻率;石英的不同之處在于其獨特的晶體結構使其能夠以產生最穩定反應的方式形成。
然而制造這些石英晶體振蕩器的過程非常具體且難以做到。
生長人造石英晶體
石英是一種天然存在的礦物,具有均勻的晶體結構,由兩個氧原子和一個硅原子組成。多年的高壓和暴露在高溫下,創造了這種獨特的礦物。這種礦物的學名是SiO4硅氧四面體。
不幸的是,大自然無法提供生長SiO4所需的恒定壓力和溫度水平,而不會產生缺陷和污染,使其不適合用于技術應用。這就是高壓滅菌器的用武之地。高壓釜是一種大型壓力容器,可將原始的天然石英變成純SiO4石英條。
高壓釜將原石英置于10,000psi-40,000psi左右的壓力下,溫度為340~380ºC。許多石英片,稱為種子,懸掛在線框上,高壓釜通電并加壓。這導致天然石英從底部蒸發,不留下任何雜質。在此之后,天然石英在這些恒定的壓力和溫度下重新配制到種子上。生長晶體的過程需要30到120天才能完成。
切割水晶
在高壓釜工藝產生純SiO4石英棒后,制造工藝的下一步是根據其預期用途的尺寸將棒切割成小塊。這是使用高精度刀具完成的,這些刀具旨在非常精確地切割并使用精確的角度。在此步驟中,制造商必須記住使晶體坯料比要求略厚。
然后可以仔細蝕刻這些較厚的坯料并研磨到所需的厚度。對于更精確的晶體,坯料做得稍微薄一些,以便它以所需的更高頻率共振。在此之后,將金或其他材料濺射到毛坯上的仔細過程發生,以便將其微調到所需的頻率。

蝕刻
為了使這種晶體在振蕩器中有效,表面經過化學蝕刻以消除研磨造成的損壞。蝕刻為晶體提供了更精細的光潔度,阻止了不需要的化學物質和碎屑進入并擾亂頻率。除了精細的光潔度外,蝕刻是改變晶體尺寸的過程的最后階段。蝕刻后,晶體應達到所需的尺寸以供使用。
蝕刻過程必須通過仔細清潔晶體表面來完成,確保去除蝕刻過程中使用的所有外部化學物質痕跡。
電極
在晶體達到所需的規格和光潔度后,通過將成品晶體坯料放入蒸發掩模中并將銀或金蒸氣沉積到晶體表面,形成電極,從而添加電極基座。最后,將引線連接到沉積的電極上,并將成品晶體安裝到其支架中。
密封
一旦晶體安裝在其支架中,它就會用氮氣密封,以防止不需要的材料進入設計。這些不需要的顆粒會導致晶體內的老化和其他問題。
檢查
在晶體經過全面檢查之前,制造過程尚未完成。在檢查過程中,應檢查晶體以確認規格正確且晶體按預期運行。檢測的徹底程度和水平取決于晶體的復雜性和所需的性能。更常用生產的晶體可以分批檢測,而更細微的組件通常單獨檢測。資料下載
